Origin
There is a world-wide growing threat to the sustainability of marine fishery due to overfishing problem and worsening environmental crisis. It is a challenge for coastal nations to establish a reasonable, executable and effective fishery management strategy before the fishery collapses. However, the fishery problems in different countries or areas are different, complicated, and lacking a platform to share experience with each other. The Department of Environmental Biology and Fisheries Science, National Taiwan Ocean University is therefore commencing the First Sustainable Fishery Development Workshop (2015) under the funding from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan (R.O.C.). The goal of the workshop is to establish a platform for exchange of information, knowledge and experience among coastal countries, especially in the ASEAN Regions. In the workshop, the participants working in governmental or non-governmental fishery organizations can share experience and cooperate with each other to promote sustainability in fishery. All themes that may help sustainable fishery development will be introduced in the workshop such as Input, Output and Process controls systems, MCS, MPA, Eco-labeling, seafood safety, climate change, etc. |
